Here is a quick reminder that the Early Registration benefits will be over soon. For the rest of this month, the tuition rate is only $7.50 per credit. It is even less per credit if you enroll as half time (15 credits) or full time (30 credits).  You can also get twice as much KOLA Kredit for any new students who also sign up during Early Registration. The Student Application fee is also waived for current students during Early Registration. On July 1st, everyone will pay the application fee and the regular tuition rate of $8.00 per credit.
 
Remember that Kids On Line Academy is a virtual private school that works much like a college or university where you enroll in classes for a certain amount of credits and then pay for the tuition according to the number of credits that you are taking. There are three enrollment options:

• Full-Time Enrollment: 30 Tuition Credits
• Half-Time Enrollment: 15 Tuition Credits
• Part-Time Enrollment: 1-14 Tuition Credits

We understand the challenge of coming up with funds to pay for education and other important aspects of life and the added challenge of doing it for multiple children. This challenge becomes even harder when costs go up which tends to happen continually.  In order to help you with this challenge, we are offering KOLA Kredit which can be used towards a student’s tuition costs. That means that if a new student enrolls and puts your name down as the one who referred them to KOLA, you will receive $5.00 KOLA Kredit. In an effort to help even further, we are doubling this credit for students who enroll during the Early Registration so if they enroll in June, you get $10 KOLA Kredit.
 
KOLA Kredit makes it possible for anyone who is willing to work hard to tell others about KOLA to reduce their tuition to be as low as they want, even to the point of being free. There is no limit on how much KOLA Kredit you earn and use towards tuition.

You will need to log in to access Step 1 or you can skip that step since that information is in this email.  If you wish to login for that page or other parent pages, you may do so with the username and password that is in your email.

​You may also skip STEP 3 which is paying the Student Application Fee for students who are re-enrolling if you register in June.
 
That means that if you are enrolling before July, you only need to do STEP 2 and STEP 4 for each student who is re-enrolling.

• Learning Log: Under the Students section, we have a Learning Log which is where students can share things that they have been learning with other students.  There will be a form on that page for students to use to submit their experiences and then after they are approved, the experiences will be added to the Learning Log. We would love to have every student contribute to this page.
  
• Teaching Tips: We have a Parents section and under that section is a page dedicated to providing tips for you as your student’s at-home tutors. We would like these tips to come from you so just like the Learning Log page, there will be a form here for parents to submit ideas and tips to share with other parents.
• Cara’s Clue: There is now a page for Cara’s Clues also under the Parents section so the clues will be posted on the website and you can access and read them there.

Sharing KOLA: Because there has been confusion in the past, please be careful how you share KOLA with others.  KOLA is a private virtual school and needs to be acknowledged as a school.  It is not a reseller or a discounted curriculum vender. As a school, the only ones who have access to the courses we offer are KOLA students.  You are welcome to use the following paragraph or one like it:
 
Kids On Line Academy is a private online school where students are able to pick and choose the courses that best fit their needs. ​There is a patch in my backyard that has been an eyesore for the past few years. We built on to our house a few years back and this is the spot that just was pushed to the side and became a barren pile of rocks and dirt and leftover building supplies. So I decided to give my oldest son a project and help him design and landscape that section and thus the project began. Over the course of the past few months, we have made baby steps along this project and are someday going to have a nice walled garden with a small patio and flower garden. The other day I went out to help with some decision-making and brick-laying and I took this picture.
 
These are my unexpected roses that have been growing in the middle of our project all spring. I don’t know where the rose bush came from or who planted the seed but it has been growing on the pile of weeds and dirt that has been dominating one of the corners of this project. I have no other roses growing in the backyard and this spot has been continually trampled and piled upon and I thought there was nothing but weeds. You will notice that there is also a weed growing next to it. Anyway, it made me think about other gardens and projects in life and how sometimes we feel like we have a pile of leftover stuff that just gets shoved to the side and even trampled on as we focus our time and effort on other areas. It is easy to get frustrated and even depressed whenever we look at this pile that reminds us how inadequate we are in our goal to have things nice and tidy and complete and we never had enough time to get back to this pile.
 
This happens in education too as we help our kids increase their learning in one area while another gets shoved aside.  So many times we look at those other project spots and only see the undone corners and the unlearned facts and pieces of knowledge that still need to be planted or hedged up or trimmed.
 
It is easy to look back over a school year and see all of the piles of things we didn’t get to or didn’t quite get finished the way that we had planned. My clue for today is to remind you that amidst the rubble of life and learning, there are often unexpected roses that are somehow planted and unintentionally nourished along the way. Then somewhere along the journey, they miraculously bloom and bring forth gorgeous unexpected roses. They may be smaller than expected or a different color than you would have picked but they are beautiful in their own way.
 
With kids, it is also good to remember that when they start to blossom and bloom in their own gardens, let them do it. Help them pull the weeds around their roses and talents and give them room and time to grow even if the garden that they are nourishing doesn’t fit the landscaping plan you may have had for them when they started out. Another clue is to remember that some plants or talents take a lot of time before the roses start to bud so for some gardens and some children we need more patience than for others.
 
So as you look back over this past school year, remember to find and celebrate the unexpected roses along with the expected ones. Look for those unexpected successes and talents that may have popped up and give them credit and space to grow. My guess is that the unexpected ones will be stronger and more hardy than the expected ones. They had to grow and develop in spite of everything else and they will be stronger for it. My unexpected roses will be given their own special spot in my garden and will be cherished a little more than the ones in my rose garden where I expected roses to bloom.
 
Regardless of whether your roses from this past year were expected or unexpected, there is great beauty there and I hope it makes you smile to see them blossom.
