Do you know what tomorrow is?  It is the beginning of another month in 2018!  Crazy, huh?!!  Seems like only yesterday that we rang in the New Year and here it is the end of May already and thus the end of another school year.  I know that things have been quiet this spring and I didn’t get all the newsletters out that I would have liked but I just saved you from having to read more emails. J  I had also hoped to get the registration up before now but hey, it is ready earlier than it was last year so that is a good thing.  So yes, the registration is now up and open for this coming school year. Below are the details of what you can expect.
 

• Current Courses: All current courses will be extended past the June 1st deadline and will continue until June 10th. This will give you about a week to register for the new school year.  Remember if you register for the same ones for fall, you will have continued access during the summer at no additional tuition costs.
  
  
• 2018-19 Enrollments: The links and information for registration are available now on the website. 
  ​
• Early Enrollment Period: Students who enroll early (before July 1st) will benefit from a lower tuition cost. So if you enroll before July, your courses will be billed at the lower tuition rate.

 

• Full Time Enrollment: 30 Credits: $200 (normally $225)
• Half Time Enrollment: 15 Credits: $100 (normally $115)
• Part Time Enrollment: 1-14 Credits: $7.00 per credit (normally $8.00)

 

• Sharing the Savings: The lower tuition rate applies to all students so please share this information with others who may want to enroll in KOLA. 

 

• Available Courses for 18-19: The same courses are available this year and most of the credits have stayed the same.  A few had to change but most of those changes went down instead of up.

 

• Application Fee Waived: Returning students who were enrolled in KOLA this year do NOT need to pay this Application Fee if you enroll during the early enrollment period which means that you need to enroll before July 1st.

 

• Course Availability: We have limited seats in most of the programs so we will give first chance at those spots to current students and put new students on a waiting list if need be.  We have a cap this year on enrollments and after it is reached, enrollments will be closed so please enroll early if KOLA fits your needs for this coming year.

 

• Summer Access For Current Courses: Current students who enroll in the same courses for the fall that they have right now will continue to have access all summer for no additional tuition cost.

 

• Summer Access For New Courses: Current students who enroll in new courses for the fall but would like to start before the first day of school, may pay the Early Access Fee of $10 per student and receive access for all new courses after their registration is complete.

​Spring Semester is almost ready to start on February 1st. This year has been a fast one and I have had a difficult time getting newsletters out on a regular basis this year. I will have to add that to my list of New Year’s goals. J
 
In the meantime, here are some quick announcements.
 
Spring Semester Enrollments: If you know anyone who would like to be in KOLA for the last half of the school year, now is a great time for them to enroll. We will waive the Student Application Fee for all new students and siblings who enroll this next week.  Just use the code NEWJAN on the Student Application or Course Request Form.
 
Adding Courses: It’s not too late to add courses for the spring rate of $4.00 per credit.  If you would like to do this, fill out the Adding Courses Form on the website.  It is under the Students tab on the website.  http://www.kidsonlineacademy.org/adding-courses.html
 
FREE Concert: We have a fieldtrip scheduled for KOLA students to attend a special Utah Symphony concert. This is a concert that is about an hour long and is geared towards 5th graders. It is free for KOLA students and their school-age siblings and chaperones/parents.

Course Login Information: You should have received the login information for all courses so if you do not have access to any of them, please let me know immediately so I can get that to you.
 
Tales2Go - Possible New Course: The suggestion has been made to add Tales2Go to our curriculum options.  We have looked into it and it is something that we could do if enough students are willing to enroll in that course.  Tales2Go is an audio library of over 6000 books for the beginning to the advanced reader. It would be 4 credits at $8 a credit so the tuition would be $32 for the year. Additional Seats: We have some additional seats available in most of the courses that we offer. We need to fill these spots with students if at all possible so if you have any friends or family who might be interested, please pass along our website.

Yea, it was nice to get away and camp with family for a while.  It did drive me a little crazy though not being able to get things on my to-do list done while we were there. Now we are back and getting things up and running for a new year.  Thank you for your patience.  It has been a crazy summer!
 
For everyone who has already submitted the applications and course requests, you should have received an invoice through Paypal for the tuition.  The email reminders that went out mentioned that enrollment had to be complete by August 1st in order to have the online access to courses granted before the 15th.  That includes paying the invoice.  Obviously, that was impossible to do since I didn’t get invoices out until today so I am extending the August 1st deadline just a tad.  See below for what that means:
 

• Fee Waiver Code: If you still want to apply and get your student application fee waived, you can do it by entering this CODE in the comment box of your Student Application: KAMP17 
• This code can also be used by your friends for new students so spread the word and share the code.  This code is good until the 15th of August.  Here is the link to start the application process: http://www.kidsonlineacademy.org/registration.html
• Course Early Access:  Students who complete their enrollment THIS WEEK will get access to their courses on or before August 15th.  Those who complete their enrollment after this week will have access on the first day of school which is September 1st. ​Wow!  Can you believe that the summer is almost over?  I don’t want to accept that so we are going camping for a week for a family reunion.  In the meantime, we are ready to start taking applications and course requests for this next school year. Below is what you need to know in regards to what is the same, new, or different for next year.
 

• Student Application Fee: Each student will need to pay the application fee for processing each school year; however, if you submit your application and course request in JULY, the application fee will be waived. • Available Courses:  The same courses from last year are available this year with one exception – Typing Ace is no longer available; Typing Club will takes its place. We are adding one more option in “General Ed” which is Miacademy.  It is like Always-Icecream and Clever Dragons but is not a gender-specific platform. • Tuition Costs: The tuition costs are going to remain the same as last year. They really should go up so the school can at least break even but if enough students enroll, then the tuition will be able to remain where it is. • KOLA Kredit: It is possible for students to earn KOLA Kredit that can be used towards future tuition. It is earned by referring new students to KOLA and when they enroll and put your name down as the one who told them about the school, you get $5 in KOLA Kredit.

Does it ever seem that the harder you try and the more you are determined to get something done, the longer it takes and the more obstacles you encounter?  Ugh!!  Well, that is what it feels like for getting everything renewed for KOLA for this next school year!  I was sooo determined to get everything done early and ready ahead of time and yet look where we are; it’s later than ever! We are still working on the last few accounts!! DOUBLE UGH!!!!  I think that I will plan NOW to have everything LATE next year and hope that the reverse of this year will happen!
 
So this is just a quick note to let you know that we haven’t forgotten you.  We are really hopeful to have it done by the end of this week but in the meantime, the course access will remain for most current courses until July 1st and enrollments for fall will begin next week.  Thank you for your patience!

• 2017-18 Enrollments: Information for next year’s courses will be posted and emailed as soon as possible – pending the last few renewals

​I was going to write a full newsletter to go with this but it never happened so here is a quick note on a field trip opportunity that you may have already noticed on the website.
 
FREE Fieldtrip: This weekend, there is a fun rock show in Ogden, Utah called the Gemstone Junction.  KOLA students and their friends can get in free with their chaperones. We have permission to open this up to our FRIENDS who homeschool as well so feel free to share this page with friends who would like to attend.  You are welcome to bring money for grab bags and more (Booths often have jewelry or trinkets or grab bags of rocks for $1.00 or so which makes it fun for kids to buy a bag of rocks... as if they need more rocks!  :-)

SALT LAKE CITY STARS KIDS DAY

The SLC Stars have partnered with STEM Action Center Utah to provide fun and educational activities throughout the game. The STEM magician will be performing at halftime, while other activities will focus on how science, technology, engineering and math can relate to sports.
 
Tickets are FREE for students, teachers and chaperones. Each group/school is responsible for its own transportation to and from the event.
Those attending are allowed to bring a sack lunch. Special lunch packages will also be available for purchase at concessions for $5.00 each.
